I've been using 4.0 and live update worked fine,since I've upgraded to 4.2 can't update unless I turn off zone alarm?
 I've given permission to all trojanhunter programs in zone alarm that I can find.
 It worked with 4.0 with same set up Huh  
 I ran live update just before I upgraded
xp pro all updates
 thnx for any help

Try this:
 
1.Delete the entry for Liveupdate that is showing in your screenshot above.
2. Run Liveupdate again and see whether it asks for permission.
3. Give it permanent permission if it asks again.
 
If it doesn't ask permsision again after deleting the entry, then you know something is wrong with your ZA truevector database.  Post back here and we can help you with that if needed. Wink

Go to Overview, Preferences:  Uncheck, "Load ZoneAlarm Pro at Startup", then reboot.  Run LiveUpdate and see if it is able to connect without ZoneAlarm running.  Wink
 
Edit: don't stay online very long without your firewall running; if you have Win98/98SE/ME, you aren't at risk, but if you have WinXP, enable the Windows firewall before you try this.  Just remain online for a few seconds to test this, then restart ZAP and recheck the same box you Unchecked above.

Also, if we can demonstrate for sure this is a problem with ZA, let's try another thing:
 
Assuming you verified that you can access and run LiveUpdate successfully when ZAP is disabled:
 
When you re-enable ZA Pro, go to: Program Control, Main tab.  Make sure your Program Control slider is set to Medium or Low.  {Medium is the default setting at installation}.
 
With the slider set to high, that means ZAP is doing Component Control; it could be blocking some component of LiveUpdate or TH if you accidentally told it to in the past.
 
It is easy to accidentally hit the Enter button when you get those  numerous prompts when ZAP is in Component Control mode due to that slider being in the "High" setting.
 
Hope all this helps get you started with successful troubleshooting. Wink

I am leaning now towards conclusion that your truevector database is corrupted.   Do you know how to delete the old database and start fresh?  Basically you uncheck "load ZAP at Startup", then reboot, then delete your Internet Logs folder contents, then restart ZAP and recheck "load ZAP at Startup".  That will re-initialize your database; you will then have to give permissions to your programs all over again.  Location of the database is here: "%Windows%\Internet Logs", where %Windows% represents the location of your Windows directory {which varies according to operating system}.  Good Luck. Before you start again from scratch {refresh your truevector database}, I had another idea:  is "InstTimeUpdater" showing in your Program List?  {See Screenshot}:
 

 
I'm wondering, if that permission is missing in your Program List, perhaps if you use the Add button to manually add that and give permission, if it will fix the problem?  Worth a try .. Wink

how do you insert picture in post?
 InstTimeUpdate was in my Program List.
 I deleted My Internet Logs folder contents except one log file( fwdbglog.txt) that it wouldn't let me delete.
 now Live update works Smiley

it just randomly gets corrupted......and VERY few programs need to act as a sever, that means they just sit and listen for someone to connect to your computer......trojans do this, and a select few programs also do this, but as i said most programs work fine without server access.......can always do trial and error, block it, doesn't work, enable it Smiley
