Why does magnus say in the very first post about the subscription service in-
Announcements :
TrojanHunter: New Subscription Service:

What will happen if I don't purchase a subscription?

If you don't purchase a subscription your current version of TrojanHunter will still function, but must be manually updated, and you will not receive any of the benefits of a subscribing user.

I can see not being able to auto update, But one of the main reasons I decided to purchase Trojan Hunter was that it was a
"one time fee" for a "lifetime membership"  and that I would always be able to update, if not upgrade. This is wrong. Angry

It might be my fault, I cost money Grin

In all seriousness, trying to keep up with new WIDESPREAD malware is a big job. The amount of actually widespread and damaging malware around today is staggering. Adding a lot of detection takes a lot of time.

We're also moving forward with even better detection methods and better positioning of THGuard especially as a front line defence. It's an anti trojan so antivirus complement but it still serves a front line position. New features are due with every new version (4.5 has a LOT of changes you won't notice) Cool

That may be. but it doesn't answer my question.
Magnus himself, in his very first post on the subject, just a couple month's ago,

states,and I quote.

This seems a much fairer solution for people who were told that they were paying a "one time fee" for a "life long membership".

I understand the cost of doing business, and would understand if updates to the program itself would cost from now on, or even no longer being able to receive support without a subscription, but the program people paid for should not be made useless, which it would be with out up to date signature files.

i am not sure that you can actually manually update the old version with the new malware-definitions.. i think that the new definitions are not compatible with the old version of TH..

But the question has not been answered.

Lifetime updates are just that.

There should be a grandfather clause in here somewhere for the people that purchased TH when it was advertising lifetime updates.

I too purchased TH when it was advertising lifetime updates...
if you change a contract, in the middle of a contract, it is a violation of that contract.

I can understand Magnus's position on making money off of TH, as it is a great program.

But lifetime is lifetime.

There is some confusion here regarding the old policy... it always was (anyone can check via archive.org) "no current charges but we may introduce a charge in the future". Unfortunately this got interpreted by some users as "no charges now or ever". I can see why it would be easy to interpret it that way, and this is where the confusion comes from.
