Stream Read Error

When I start my Sony VAIO with XP Medica Center Edition, I get a Stream Read Error message.  The only thing that loads on start-up is Norton.  Does anyone know what's causing this error? Thanks, Gary

Welcome to the forum wordprof  Cheesy

Does it identify which program is getting the Stream Read Error?  This is typically caused by a corrupt database for whatever program.

Also check your Event Viewer and see if any error is reported there.

START>RUN and type in  Eventvwr

Click on OK and the Event Viewer should open.  Look in the System and then the Application sections.

Try running a disk check to see if it will fix things.

-  Go to START>RUN and type in   CHKDSK /r /f
(Note that there is a space before /r and /f )

-  Click on OK.  A black Command Prompt window will open.

-  In the command prompt window, type in Y to confirm that you want to run CHKDSK on your next reboot.

-  Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

-  Type in exit and press the Enter on your keyboard to exit the command prompt window.

-  Reboot your computer.

Before Windows loads during the reboot, the system will run a full check and repair of your C hard drive.  It will take some time depending on your disk size.
