Hi, I bought a laptop 2 months ago and it came with 60 days free trial to norton anti virus software. It has now expired and I would like to know what would be the best software for me to use.
Many thanks.

Welcome to the forum gav223  Cheesy

You are asking a question that will most assuredly get you many different answers.  Users have their own experiences and opinions concerning various security-type programs.  From what I understand, Kaspersky is the most highly rated of the AVs.  From there, it pretty much becomes a battle of opinions.

If you scan some of the various other security forums such as www.wilderssecurity.com, www.castlecops.com, www.dslreports.com, etc., you will find your question asked continuously.

Obviously the best Anti-Trojan security software is TrojanHunter...and getting better.  Smiley

As siliconman suggests, everybody continually debates and discusses this issue {which AV is best}, usually people pretty much answer "MINE is the best".   Cheesy Grin  But I was going to suggest, IF your OEM copy of Norton runs well on your box, and IF the subscription renewal cost isn't too much {hopefully they give you a good deal for OEM subscription renewal}, then honestly IMHO, Norton is plenty good protection.  Norton is often maligned I think because it is become popular to attack the "Big Boy" of market share; people seem to always go after the Big Corp, e.g. Microsoft is target of much criticism {justified, warranted or not}; heh.  Cheesy Grin My point being, you have to be careful and ferret through someone's argument: is he/she giving rational reasons {e.g. respected studies, tests, & AV-Comparatives, etc.} or is the person just mouthing off prejudice and hate; these type of discussions often become emotional and irrational.   Cheesy Grin Shocked  Take Care, Hope that Helps a little bit, Warmly, Ran

Maybe worth a mention too that there are some good free AVs too, such as Avast and AVG, if finances are a particular issue. I've used both of these and been quite happy with them, though as a long-time Norton AV user I've no axe to grind with Norton and have been very satisfied with their products also.

There are a host of other free security applications in every category too, including e.g. free firewalls like ZoneAlarm Free and anti-spyware applications like SpywareBlaster.

Also you can mitigate some security risks for free by such means as e.g running as a limited user, configuring your browser for enhanced security, safe surfing habits etc.

All of this is discussed at length on the good security forums, as already mentioned, so it's well worth checking them out.

I'm very happy I paid for TrojanHunter though - best value security application I've ever purchased  Wink

Sorry - those links in my previous post don't appear to work from within the post for some reason - however they will work if pasted into the browser navigation field.
