computer monitoring from another location

Ok i'm not brilliant with computers, that's an understatement.  Could someone tell me if there is software that can be installed onto your computer without your knowledge and without the person physically touching your computer.  I have had some security issues.  Password changes etc. At the time this occured i didn't have a reliable firewall and i'm wondering whether this is possible and how i can prevent it from happening again.

Absolutely YES.  This is common for most malicious infections that get on your system and why you need a good software firewall, anti-trojan software, anti-spyware software, anti-virus protection, etc., etc.

Unless you have such multilayered security software on your system, you will most definitely become infected and never know it until either your system crashes, slows down, or find that your credit card number is being used in tin-buck-too.   Angry

In fact, if you go on the Internet without protection, you stand a very good chance of becoming infected within 1-5 minutes.   Shocked

There are thousands of keyloggers that can be maliciously installed (remotely and without you knowing it) that will read your keyboard and send info to the criminals.  There are even hardware keyloggers that someone can install on your system to log your keystrokes.

There are many, many malicous programs that take full control of your computer remotely and do whatever the criminal desires...steal any info, modify your system....you name it,,,it can be done and quite often is...without you, the owner of the computer being aware of it.

Here is a good/quick read for you to learn what is available on the Internet and can/will harm you.  Just click on the item in the list and it will define and explain it for you.
