They are both good, it really is a matter of personal Preference. I have used Noton for years, and have had no problems, I recently upgraded to NAV 2005 and can recommend it. Cheesy

Statistically, which one does more for your money. I need anti-spyware and ant-virus protection... plus e-mail scanning in and out.

Which one does better when combating the most notorious viruses and spyware?

There are THREE categories of malware, viruses, trojans and spyware. You need an app for each one. Spam is another category altogether.

so I use NAV 2005 (antivirus) TrojanHunter (trojans and some spyware) and Sybot search and destroy, Adware SE personal, spyware guard and Microsoft's Antispyware beta all for spyware as no one applicatioin gets them all in the case of spyware. Google on these names for more info.

As for spam, Google on anti-spam. I don't use one as my ISP (Verizon) has an optional spam filter and rules I can set up. Works very well. Also, Verizon comes with msn permium which has built in anti-spam.

And I take it that you run all the vital updates that Microsoft comes out with?

Wow! You sound like your fortified from anything touching you? Does this mean you have a firewall on your DSL modem, (assuming you have it,) and a firewall installed on your box, (let's say ZoneAlarm?)

Your system must run pretty slow with all of these apps running at the same time? I currently use AVG FREE, MS Anti-Spyware, Ad-Aware SE, and ZoneAlarm. My DSL has a firewall too. My system runs slow just with AVG running with ZoneAlarm... I usually turn on the others just to check the system from time to time.

In terms of my subjective impressions, my system is not noticeably slower than before any of the major security measures. (P4, 2.8, I GB RAM,)
