Advice on required security for comupers

I am a new member to this forum and it is quit different from others as it will take some time learning.  I'm not very literate with the vocabulary of computers, and I hope you will understand what I am talking about.  As I have a trojan according to my computer and I have used Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, downloaded and deleted Spyware Doctor 3.1, AVG, I have A firewall (Zone Alarm), and now just yesterday I have downloaded Trojan Hunter and it still wasn't caught.  It is getting to the point where I can not enjoy the privacy and pleasure of being on my computer, not to mention the frustration.  My question is what ALL do I need to protect my computer just in general?  And could someone suggest the most effictive software that you don't need to know the inside and out of the computer technology.  Some of my problems are:  windows changing from a full to small screen, disc cleanup is freezing along with other programs(?), internet home page address is changing to a blank one instead of my typed in one, most programs are moving very slow, etc.

It would be greatly appreciated for a reply, and please keep the terminology simple.

Thank You,
TinaJo

Tinajo,

This does sound like you are infected with spyware/adware and the About:Blank infection.  My recommendation is that you follow Claire's recommendation concerning HijackThis at this thread:

http://forum.misec.net/board/Malware/1104500149

The CastleCop techs are very good at analzying the Hijackthis log and providing removal advice to clean up your system.

Not trying to push you away from the TH forum...you will get more experienced help on the HiJackthis log from CastleCops.
