unwanted internet connection

Hi All,

As soon as Windows XP starts the computer automatically tries to connect to the interenet, although I don't want it to. This only stated happening a few weeks ago so I suspect it is some sort of Trojan.

Has anyone had this problem ?

I'm not on XP (yet) but it sounds very much like a dialler application has found its way onto your system. Run LavaSoft's Ad-Aware and TrojanHunter (even the trial version should be good enough).

IIRC there is a setting to automatically connect when starting the PC, but it's most likely that an application has either been set to auto-dial (like AV updater software, or even Outlook or Active Desktop), or a new program has been added in the last few weeks.

Yep, sounds like a trojan! Run something like adaware.
