need advice on securing xp

I've been researching trying to find a good AV and AT program. The shortlist is KAV & NOD, and TDS & TH.
I've read a few threads over at wilder's and here as well. One particularly on the dll issue and the comment magnus made about root accounts. I was wondering if someone can go into detail as to how to do this or have links. I have an administrator account and I use a user account with admin privileges. What exactly should I do to this user account in terms of rights, permissions, etc.. to have the highest security and are there costs to doing this. Any advice would be appreciated.
