If your IP address appears in this database, it would be a strong indicator that your machine was possibly cracked and is accessing other machines in a manner that their firewalls log as hostile.  Smiley

As I expected, my dial-up IP came up clean. A useful link to pass on to my always-on friends. Thanks

mark,
I agree with max (as per usual, it seems); I too have a dial-up connection and, likewise, come up clean. Indeed a useful and interesting link. Thanks.

But also imagine knowing that, because most users get a new IP each time they connect, there are possibly thousands to check. I had a quick look back through my firewall logs (including the one from the 'rescued' hard drive, so it goes back to last April) and there's only been 3 repetitions...

Still, it's reassuring, especially if your's is a fixed IP leased long-term.

Commercial Broadband and several Cable Broadband assign permanent IP's.  Luckily I am not on one of those, when I am on an address that is getting pinged, it is time to cycle the router. Wink

Hey,
Thanks Mark, thinking that my computer could be attacking someone's computer is one of the things that made me get a firewall and then Trojan Hunter. It's good to see the all clear.
Jamming, how do you cycle a router?

It depends upon the router, the easiest way is to turn of the power to the Router and then let it comeback on its own.  Other than that I have to "telnet" command for my router and then go down the Menu to "reboot the router."  Should say in your manual how to reboot if you connection freezes up.

Hey,
Thanks Jamming. I picked up a Linksys with firewall for an extra layer of protection. There's other great security type programs mentioned in these posts but I think it's best I understand the ones I have now properly before I start adding more.
