So, if I read that article correctly, this only affects XP - it's not possible to gain Admin rights by the same trick in Win2K? (Obviously, this doesn't matter at all for Win9x/ME, which is full of security holes way bigger...).

Anyone care to try this out for us? It seems MS has made a massive step backwards with XP, all for the sake of (on the face of it) pastel colours and the ability to run most games. Gimme 2K any day - faster, more reliable and now it seems more secure as well!!! Just a shame MS will kill it in 2005, compared to 2008 for XP... it almost makes me think twice about the choice of Win2K as our upgrade system at school, but if we used XP and this trick actually works... I wonder if it's possible to con XP even further - say by creating a bootable CD using Win2K and just dropping the Recovery Console files onto it...? If it's small enough, this might even work for a floppy disk Cheesy

Awesome! Thanks, spy1 - I am glad that I chose W2K over XP.

Well, 2005 gives OSS plenty of time to catch up. In two years, inshallah, I will be pure penguin.
