Use this excellent piece of freeware *and* Spybot S&D, *and* a good AV and AT (or three) and play with matches!  (p.s. get the autoupdater!! Wink

New features in Ad-aware 5.83
 
Backup and restore functionality
Now you can build backups easily before removing spyware components or fixing your registry. The included backup-manager lets you reinstall a backup with a single mouseclick.  
 
RegHance integration
Ad-aware 5 lets you open or jump to any detected registry key if RegHance 2 or later is installed. You can export a registry-bookmark file of all selected registry keys, that can be opened for further analysis with RegHance.  
 
Multi language support
Ad-aware contains Swedish, Dutch, English and German language support by default, but you can add your own custom language modules easily. Read here to learn how. The language can be changed while Ad-aware is running from within the preferences menu.  
 
New user interface
Ad-aware 5 features a more flexible user interface then the previous versions. You can now minimize the main window during scanning, for example.  
 
Entirely new Manual included
The new manual is more complete then the previous one, and more easy to understand. An updated FAQ page has been Included as well.
 
Shell integration
Optional shell extension to scan a particular drive\folder from the explorer Right-click on an drive or folder to let Ad-aware scan it on the fly.  
 
Exclude list to let Ad-aware ignore certain components
Now it is possible to let Ad-aware ignore specified components, and keep them remaining on your system. You can add components found during a scan directly from the resultlist to an exclude list, which is also supported by Ad-watch.
 
Scanning of removable drives
It is now possible to scan removable drives and, unlike in previous versions, select particular drives to scan.  
 
Ad-watch upgraded to v2.51
Ad-watch has been improved as well, and uses now even less
resources. The support of excluded components has been added (edit the exclude list from within Ad-aware) as well as several enhancements and improvements

I've been using 5.83 for a few months now. For some reason, when I use the Refupdate feature, lavasoft's own site seems slow to pick up when I need a neww reffile. That just happened today. After IAMSKINZ posted notice here of a new update, I ran Refupdate, and lavasoft.nu told me I was all up-to-date (I wasn't). The mirror at digital-solutions.co.uk correctly told me I needed a new one.
 
On a related note - what does Spybot S&D do that Ad-Aware doesn't? With TH Guard and Ad-Aware, what added protection does Spybot offer?

Hah!  Thanks maxqnz!!  Looks like my first non-test post I pretty much blew (besides posting it in 'not the best' group on this forum;)...  Ok, somehow I had missed it during checks at lavasoft, I have been running 5.82 since the week it came out and thought for sure .83 was released yesterday...  I think I got bored making weekly checks for reffile updates and got all excited seeing one...
 
Anyways, now that I have my bloodwings here I won't be such a once a month visitor - as for spybot I like the defense in depth it adds.  Updates have been fairly regular, it catches keyloggers and other malware not listed by AAW does some reg cleaning (MRUs) and just adds a layer - I like layers. How it stands up against TrojanHunter, admittedly not sure, I'm still evaluating and haven't thrown the 'gauntlet' at it yet Smiley

I have never had any problems with Spybot and TrojanHunter. Come to think of it I have never had conficts with any software and TH.
