Recommendations to replace Norton Personal Firewall 2006

My subscription to Norton Personal Firewall 2006 expires in thirty days.  Norton no longer supports this product, and will not sell me a subscription renewal.
 
My plan is to allow my subscription to expire, and then uninstall Norton Personal Firewall, and install another firewall program in its place.
 
I am looking for a replacement firewall.  Something user friendly, effective and free.
 
What do you recommend?  Thanks in advance for your replies.

If anyone cares, I ended up replacing Norton Personal Firewall 2006 with Privatefirewall 7.0.25.5 today.
