I think my firewall is blocking my online access

Hey guys,
Suddenly today I lost all my online access from my pc - I am now on my MAC. I was chatting on yahoo and my webcam couldn't connect, so I went to MSN messenger and when I tried webcamming my MSN messenger shut down. So I restarted my MSN and got this troubleshooter coming up saying I had a fault on my DNS and Ports. I restarted the pc and since then I haven't been able to go online at all. I have NIS2006 which I installed (upgrade from previous version) a month ago. I checked my LAN connection to my router and it seems to be working ok. I don't know if it is related to NIS having an issue and not working properly. I tried turning the firewall off and still can't get online.
Also had another weird incident: I tried restoring the system to another day and, after more than 5 attempts to different dates; the pc says it cannot restore the system to any of them.
So I am here now, not knowing what to do and I can't even uninstall properly NIS2006 - in case it is the caus of everything - as I can't go online to make the Removal Tool to work.
