Comodo Firewall?

I have read some excellent reviews of this firewall.  Particularly I have read that:

1.  It is easy to use which is nice for the less savvy user like me (presently I use Zone Alarm Free)

2.  It provides a level of security comparable to some of the good paid firewalls like Jetico, Zone Alarm Pro, Outpost Pro.

On the flip side I have also read that it:

1.  Has some quirks that are being ironed out as it seems to be a "work in progress".

2.  Can be a little resource heavy

I have not tried it myself just yet.  Has anyone in this forum?  If you have, do you care to share your thoughts?  This product definitely has me intrigued.

Haven't used this particular firewall, so I can't offer an opinion.  However, the link to a thread in this forum might be of interest.

Comodo firwall version 2 isn't bad but i don't think people will like it next to these longer loading times. The login process - from ctrl+alt+del until all items are clickable on tray - takes around 1 minute longer on a basic computer: to make comodo useable, they must improve this.
It can help you, however, to make good control over your computer and they are trying hardly to hide all popup (allow/deny) windows from you (basic). They can also help to list dll's assigned to programs but at this feature, i think only experts are at home.
Besides all, it's free and it'll remain free - sad the author at his/her home page. You can trust the company as well, that's another very good point.
So just give it a try: check how much time/cpu it can eat and if that's still ok, use it Grin.

Tested on XP Pro with ADSL connection.

It is on my list of security applications to try.  I will probably give them a few more months to iron out some issues while i also evaluate some others.

1.  I use NOD32 as my AV and they have been promising a firewall for some time.  So I want to demo their fireall product when it is released.

2.  I am presently doing a demo run of Online Armor.  It is my HIPS program.  They are also soon to release a Firewall and I like the idea of having your HIPS and Personal Firewall in one application.  So i will be trying that too.

Between Comodo, NOD32, and Online Armor Firewalls I should soon be ditching Zone Alarm Free.

Thanks for your reply.

A new version was released yesterday.  Folks, this is a really good firewall.  Try it and I doubt you will be disappointed.  There are a few issues with some folks, particularly with the frequent failure of the automatic update feature, but if one is installing Comodo for the first time anyway, then it doesn't matter.  This seems to me to be first class personal firewall software - despite that fact that it is offered to the general public at no cost...!  Here's the link:

A new version has been released with some bug fixes and the built-in updater now works fine.  If you are interested, I don't think this firewall will disappoint.  Current version:  2.3.5.62  CHUCK   Grin
