My gut tells me that it will be an interesting upgrade, particularly concerning how it interfaces with third party software firewalls.  It certainly sounds like it will be critical to follow recommendations of vendors about "it is NOT ADVISEABLE to run two software firewalls simultaneously".

I also feel that the setup windows that are coming with SP2 are going to baffle and befuddle many users who are not computer savey concerning firewalls, ports, etc.

With that being said, I am very glad that MS is pressing forward with focus and determination to provide greater security in the OS and other products.  I look forward to SP2 and hope it resolves outstanding many issues with XP.

XP2 could be the one to shift many companies away from Win98. I'm still sure that Win2k SP4 will prevail, but there is inertia from some sectors (especially since MS is extending the life of Win98 to 2006). As far as the firewall is concerned, the neat autoprofiling feature will be very useful.

Another spur could be Office 2003 - I've said before that they always play with one thing over another - this time it's Outlook, which is definitely a business-orientated tool. We're just rolling Off2k3Pro out at school, on Win2kPro SP4, and I'm a fan (despite not being able to run it on Win9Cool. Who knows? Maybe it'll even get me to move to XP?!
