 As a newcomer, I had a question concerning firewall updates. I'm still on dialup, yes I known, but its true. I have been using Norton firewall 2003, AVG free antivirus and TrojanHunter. My question is, Nortons is expiring in a month. Would it be safe to just continue using Nortons even though it wont be updated OR is a downloaded  of the free versions of Sygate or Zonealarm better.  Huh

  Sorry  ,  but  I  think  that  I  can't  help  you . Last time I used a Symantec's FW  was  a brief time with NIS2001 .
  I never used ZA or Sygate free , but I used/tested   ZA Plus and  Sygate PRO .
 
  You   could  read  the  release notes of Norton FW 2004 and know  about  the new features included - probably there are some , but  don't know if they worth the upgrading .

 P.S:  My  very personal  advice  would be that if you decide to  spend  money upgrading your Norton FW , why not trying first ZAPlus or Sygate Pro ?
Both have a 30 days trial versions  and probably  there will be discounts  now  on Christmas .

   Really appreciate your advice! I had used Sygate the free addition and really liked it and was leaning to their Pro version. I think you just nudged me over the fence to now purchasing it.

 In  this  case  , tony3286 , I  think  I  can  give you  my  opinion . IMO , Sygate PRO is a  superior   FW  - a better  GUI ,IDS , access to  rules creation , a dedicated Forum ...
