How to make all files and folders visible.
« on: Feb 10th, 2006, 4:35pm »

This procedure describes how to modify the Windows files/folders default settings so that you can locate/view all files and folders.

Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 install with default settings that:
-  Hide certain files and folders relative to Windows
-  Hide extensions for known file types  (.ini, .exe, .scr, etc.)
-  Hide protected operating system files and folders

In addition, Internet criminals often invoke "hide" properties on malicious files.

The following will make these viewable:

1.  START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW tab.  (Windows XP)

1.  START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>CLASSIC VIEW>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW tab. (Windows Vista and Windows 7)

2.  Bullet "Show hidden files and folders"

3.  Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"

4.  Uncheck "Hide protected operating system file types (Recommended)"

5.  Click on Apply and Ok

Note:

Users who make these changes should be aware that these changes reveal normally hidden files and folders to all users of the computer.  If there is more than one user on the system, the administrator may wish to use these non-default settings only for troubleshooting.

Applies to all versions of TrojanHunter.
