CacheFire 0.9 Beta Released!

CacheFire is a history manager for Mozilla Firefox 3.0 and later. It allows you to specify URLs or part of URLs which should not be kept in the browsing history. Any URL that matches one of the configured strings is removed from the browsing history as soon as you visit the matching page.

This is a first beta version. You must run Firefox 3.0 since CacheFire will not work with earlier versions. Any and all feedback is very welcome! Please don't hesitate to suggest features, improvements -- all constructive criticism is welcome.

Download

Installation

Simply run the setup file linked to above. If Firefox is running during installation it must be restarted before CacheFire will function (the program should inform you about this)

How to use the program

After the GUI has started, enter a string; say www.example.com and click Add. Switch to Firefox and press Ctrl+H to bring up the history panel.

Now browse to www.example.com. You should see the history item for www.example.com first being added to the browsing history and a moment later removed by CacheFire.

Will there be a version for IE?

I honestly don't like temporary internet files and cookies. A few login cookies are useful. But 99 percent of all cookies are not.

And temporary internet files are things of the past. Way back in time they were useful for people on dial-up connections so that they could work offline.

And temp files could save time when sites in the early internet days were not updated very often. The PC could fetch the site from the temp folder instead.

But nowadays they are in the way. They are a risk, even. I have had unpleasant experiences with news sites not updating because my PC took a temporary internet file. It didn't show all the updates that the news site had coming. This even happened to my web-email once.

Worst of all they are a gateway for malware. I see a lot of potential for this product...
