Norton Internet Security 2012 & Trojan Hunter

Hi there

I have just done a clean install of Windows 7, 64 bit and installed Norton Internet Security 2012.

After doing all the Microsoft updates, I then attempted to install Trojan Hunter 5.3.

NIS 2012 puts the Trojan Hunter file redgll.exe into quarantine. Hence, Trojan Hunter no longer works.

I told NIS 2012 that this is a good file and to release out of quarantine.

I then removed Trojan Hunter and rebooted.

After doing a fresh install of Trojan Hunter, Trojan Hunter appears to be working properly along side NIS 2012.

My questions are:

1. Have I done the correct thing with NIS 2012 by telling it that the redgll.exe is safe and to release it from quarantine?

2. Is Trojan Hunter and NIS 2012 safe to use side by side on the same pc/laptop or do they conflict with each other?

Thanks

Yes, TrojanHunter and NIS 2012 are safe to use side by side.  There should be no conflicts between the two.

I do not recognize file redgll.exe.  It does not show up on either Windows 7 x86 or x64 Professional at my location.  Are you sure that you typed the right file name?

Hi there

I mistyped the file name.

The file sent to quarnatine is regdll.exe and Norton NIS 2012 reports it as WS.Trojan.H

Thank you

From where did you download the TrojanHunter version that you have on your system?

There is no such file named regdll.exe in the official version of TrojanHunter V5.3.994 as downloaded from

http://www.trojanhunter.com/products/TrojanHunterSetup.exe

which is the official Trojanhunter website.

I recommend that you fully remove the version of TrojanHunter that you have on your system and then download and install the latest version from the link above.  Then install your license so that TrojanHunter is functional.

I downloaded v5.3 from your Mischel Internet Security website.

I downloaded it back in the summer of 2011. The download worked fine with Norton Internet Security 2011. Norton 2011 didn't flag up any warnings about Trojan Hunter.

In addition, I have since done a fresh install of Windows again. This time I use Trojan Hunter 5.5 (which I downloaded from the Mischel Internet Security website), Norton 2012 put one of the Trojan Hunter files into quarantine.

The file put into qurantine by Norton 2012 was:

c:\program files (x86)\trojanhunter 5.5\regdll.exe

Norton reports this file as a WS.Trojan.H

Would it help to see a screen shot of what Norton said?

I am using Windows 7, 64 bit Home Premium version, with SP 1 installed and all the other Microsoft updates.

Since releasing regdll.exe from qurantine in Norton 2012 & reinstalling Trojan Hunter, Norton 2012 has been fine running alongside Trojan Hunter.

When NIS 2012 unquarantined file Regdll.exe where did it restore this file to (folder location)?  Did it put it back into the System32 folder at C:\Windows\System32 ?

Or do you have Mindsoft Utilities on your system?  RegDll.exe is part of this utility program.
