Restoring Registry for Win98 using Regedit

Hi, I regularly back up [via Regedit "export" utility] healthy copies of my Win98 Second Edition registry. I had assumed it was straightforward to import from this backup and supersede a corrupted or damaged registry. It turns out it's not so simple. Unless you use Microsoft's system backup utilities (which we don't and can't), a straightforward restore of backed-up registry via import is not available. Microsoft's built-in "Import" utility in Regedit adds to or modifies specific Registry entries which do not match in the 2 versions, but does not replace the new (corrupted) Registry *as a whole* with the old (undamaged) Registry. Therefore, unwanted objects will remain. What should a user do to simply and safely accomplish this reversion to the undamaged Registry? Please detail. Thaniks very much, A.H.
