Advanced WindowsCare- A Nice Freebie

After learning of the existence of Advanced WindowsCare from forum user Shaolin, I decided to test this freebie program from IOBit:

http://iobit.com/

I have to admit that I am highly impressed with the system speed/performance improvements I incurred on my Windows XP-SP2 Home Edition, Dell Dimension 8200 system.

-  Program windows are rendering significantly faster.
-  IE V6.0 is loading and rendering much faster.
-  Even my BounceBack backup protection copying is speedier.

I have Advanced WindowsCare V2, Beta 2 installed.  It found:

-  a number of setting changes/enhancements/problems on my NIC setup for my cable modem and Internet Connections.
-  numerous Windows settings "problems" that it corrected.

I have NOT let it fiddle with the Windows Services because it looks like it might a bit too aggressive in turning off some needed services.

It also does some rudimentary spyware checking and also allows the addition of Restricted Site urls and tracking cookie blocking from its data base.

This is one of those Use at your own risk utilities; however, I am glad that I ran it on my system.  It does have a restore feature so that a user can back out any of the changes that it makes.  Thus far, I have found none that I want to back out.  I try to run a clean system and do maintenance on it regularly.  So I imagine that those users who do not do routine maintenance will see even greater performance improvements if AWD is utilized.

I downloaded and actually liked this free program.  However, one of the system changes it makes is detected by both Spysweeper and Spyware Blaster.

This program wants to remove 0190 dialers.com from the blocked site list in IE.  Once I sawe it do that, I had to remove the application.

Too bad, cuz I really liked it otherwise.

You can right click on that item in AWC and add it to the Ignore list and it will not conflict with SpywareBlaster.  That's what I did.  It's the activeX component that SpywareBlaster is blocking plus your restricted sites zone settings.  You can still access 0190-dialers.com.  HOSTS file blockers such as HpGuru and MVPS do not block access to this site either.

Their tech support is always pretty quick to respond to a problem feedback email as well.

I reported this item to them in the very beginning of beta testing and they responded that they disagree that it should be blocked.  Maybe another feedback email will cause them to look again.  Wink
