Help needed for infected system

I friend of mine suspects a infected Win98 system, a laptop. I would like to get hold of some kind of bootable antivirus and antitrojan CD, that could kick in before the infected system does.

Does any of the many available providers give you such a solution that is ISO image based on a weekly basis? I have only seen NAVs solution which to my knowledge is not updated. Maybe I did not find the update if it exists. But it has to be an ISO image that you can burn easily with Nero Burning ROM or equivalent software.

Bootable CD is the keyword!

The problem is, unless you use a rewriteable CD {a CD-RW disk}, you will only be able to update ONCE.  Could you create a bootable CD-RW disk and then put DOS versions of an AV on there?  I know F-Prot has a DOS version which could be updated from the WebSite or FTP-Site {downloading and extracting the sign, macro defs}; I think Kaspersky can create a Linux-based commandline scanner as well; etc.  I understand your idea, to create a scanner running outside of Windows.  Good Luck .. Thanks for your input. I will visit those homepages of the respective antivirus producers you suggested.

Reading your comment, I get a hope that the Kaspersky solution is an out-of-the-box product (or a download) you can buy?

I know that the Linux-based commandline scanner is a "rescue disk" which is part of the KAV package; whether you can get something like that as a separate entity, you'll have to contact Kaspersky Support on that 'cause I dunno. Wink  Good Luck my Friend, Warmly, Ran
