Title says it all, really, I've had problems with OE. I have the full version of Outlook, but it seems to suffer from the same problems (not listing headers correctly) - maybe they're using the same busted database for news?

Anyone got any fave non-MS newsgroup readers?

I've already mentioned Xnews, there is also Agent (the $30US version, not Free Agent) from http://www.forteinc.com, and Super Gravity (freeware), from http://lightning.prohosting.com/~tbates/gravity/super.html

I heard good things about Xnews, but haven't tried it yet.

I use Colin Wilson's XanaNews - free, and far superior to MSOE. See here: http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/delphi.htm.
