Just when you thought that no-one was supporting Win95 anymore (well, not MS anyway), this guy brings out a brand-new game for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum (Timex 2000 as was in the States). Blimey!

I sold mine in 1984, but have the emulators on PC and my trusty Psion 5 (memories of mis-spent youth and all that - I don't get quite the same buzz trying to buy beer at the offy any more since that's now legal for me at my age...)

What fun! I remember my raw envy when a third-form friend first got his brand new Spectrum - it was just too cool. Who the hell stole 2.5 decades from me?! Angry Grin

Just in case people don't know what it looks like, here are a few picture links:-

Just follow the links to the 'Current Projects' for the d/l (there's also a demo of a work in progress called 'More Tea, Vicar?' - can't wait for that one!).

But anything the spectrum could do my Commodore 64 could do oh so much better!!!  Grin
I remember paying £200 for a Vic20 then imagining what I could do with all that 3.2K of memory. The C64 was just from a different planet. How I delighted in sitting there for 20 minutes waiting for a tape based game to load only for it to crash out after 5 seconds of wonderful game play. If only the youngsters of today realised how lucky they are!!!  Wink Grin

Hey,
Hi ReGen,
I was the first on my block to buy an Atari Pong, around 1975 or so I think. Never did get into any gaming after that though. Stereo equipment became my hobby. Home theatre now. Wasn't until I figured out that this computer should be able to play some of the newer games out today that I started playing again. I have a pretty decent audio system. I have broken a picture window. It can play really loud without any distortion. Even playing at 115 db there isn't a hint of straining. I must have burnt enough tweeters, midranges, woofers, and crossovers to fill up a truck over the years. I know loud isn't everything though, it also sounds as close to live as you're going to get this side of $20,000. Nothing can beat a live performance though, but you can come fairly close if you're willing to shell out the big bucks for the right equipment. Just one of my other hobbies.

So that's how you managed to get a $630 video card!

The scene is set - DC online at a hardware suppliers, MrsDC in another room.

DC: "I'm going to buy a $630 video card - don't worry though, it's really good!!!" Turns up volume on stereo
MrsDC: "No you're not!!!"
DC: "Sorry, dear - I couldn't make that out. Did you say 'yes, go ahead'?"Turns up volume on in-house sonic demolition equipment to 11/10 (a la Spinal Tap)
Mrs DC: screaming: "I said NO YOU'RE NOT!!!"
DC: "Thanks - I've just placed the order!!!!!"
Sounds of breaking glass
DC: "Oops! There goes another window..."

Heh! Don't let's go down that line! Two things impressed me about my friend's C64 - the sound and the way the tape-player stopped/started under the computer's control. Pretty much everything else was gameplay.

Tape loading wasn't too bad on the Speccy - IIRC it was the quickest of the bunch in data throughput, before anyone started mucking with trick turbo-loaders - I had one - 'The Lords of Midnight' - that would load in about 60 seconds (quick), but crash every other time because someone turned a fluorescent light on in the next county and caused a bit of a glitch in the transfer. As I recall, that game even changed the colour banding around the screen during load - instead of standard blue/yellow paterns, it used pink/green - urgh.

Much better on the emulator (even on the Psion), although there are about 4 different formats the emulators use, depending on the method used to grab the image (basically either a .TAP tape image - akin to a disk image - or a memory dump from a real Spectrum after loading the game). I even have one ZX81 emulator that goes the whole hog and loads the bloody programs via a virtual tape drive - I can even hear the squeeks chatter that used to come out of the computer's buzzer during tape loading - absolutely no improvement there!

Hey,
Hi Ian, Smiley Yeah something like that. I prefer to call it selective hearing though.
